Rural Ramblings

It is another brilliant sunny day at Redmoss. The snow is sparkling like diamonds and the cold air freezes your lungs! Woke up to NO water today. Apparently it was minus 18C last night and the water has frozen in the well head. Will have to wait until it thaws which should not be very long as the sun has quite a bit of heat in it. We have done well as this is only the first time this winter.

Had a very pleasant surprise too. We have had a nocturnal visitor on the terrace after the bird seed. Any ideas? (the claws are a clue). Yup, it's a badger. We had the pleasure of their company last summer but then they left suddenly. It's nice to know they have returned. Mini weetabix and any home baking are preferred food and peanuts are a good standby. Badgers seem to have a sweet tooth.

  1. What a wonderful place to live Janet, we were up near there on holiday last summer, it was delightful. We saw the Moray Firth Dolphin's and the deer at Glen Afric and the birds were really tame landing on our hands to take food, I took some lovely pics, you are sooo lucky. These photo's you have taken are great, how fantastic to have badgers so close. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hope your water soon thaws Janet. Despite the cold it must be wonderful to live where there are such wonderful views. Great to see the badgers have returned, we watched badgers in their set on a webcam at centerparcs last year - they are fascinating creatures

  3. I hope your water has thawed out Janet, perhaps some pans filled in the house if it's going to freeze again tonight

  4. Ooops, hope you're thawed out by now Janet. How lovely to have badgers visiting. I'm not too knowledgable on countryside matters but I did guess the paw imprints.
